Luc Merenda goes full Dirty Harry in this rather weak poliziottesco with some intended political flavour and trying too hard on providing us with some thrilling car chases.
As it can be understood from the previous paragraph, it is a movie that falls short in many of the aspects that it wants to excel.
On one hand tries to influx this politicized perspective, referring to various philosophies and ideologies (anarchist, nihilist, fascist…) but precisely because it goes all over the place any profound meaning to the film gets dissipated.
The other aspect on which director Sergio Martino appears to be too obsessed about doing something splendid are the car chases, and once again he does not completely succeed on it either. It is not that the chases are awful but considering the seeming high effort in creating something great they become quite disappointing.
When it comes to acting, two of the usual suspects in the genre, Richard Conte and Silvano Tranquili are the ones keeping the film afloat with their performances, specially the former, but sadly Luc Merenda’s portrayal of a loner and hot-headed police officer first and avenger afterwards is pretty poor.
The only clear highlight of the film is Guido and Maurizio De Angelis’ soundtrack which you will most definitely whistle once the movie is over.
In any case, more weaknesses than strengths in this avoidable crime thriller.
