Ernesto Alterio steals the show!
The entire cast is great and, although the story might beat around the bush before getting to port, as audience we enjoy and laugh out loud this wild ride.

Visually enticing (great sets, costumes and cinematography), the film nails its “anachronistic Parisian Gangs of New York” style.
But, the story deflates drastically as it progresses to something quite unconvincing.
Cronin clearly distances himself from Sam Raimi’s approach.
Unfortunately that leaves us without the goofiness and technical boldness of the originals, resulting in another rather formulaic gory horror.
