Visually enticing (great sets, costumes and cinematography), the film nails its “anachronistic Parisian Gangs of New York” style.
But, the story deflates drastically as it progresses to something quite unconvincing.
Cronin clearly distances himself from Sam Raimi’s approach.
Unfortunately that leaves us without the goofiness and technical boldness of the originals, resulting in another rather formulaic gory horror.
Unconventional action film with interesting use of sound (design and score), camera movement (a bit exaggerated), and plot twists.
Unfortunately its acting is very poor and the message seems pretentious.

Led by two child siblings in a house and forest during WW2 Philippines, this fantasy horror excels in tense scenes which sadly start late and are second to the gore.
Filled with too many images void of meaning. It is in the conversations at Mr. Fouad’s garage about the social situation in Lebanon among different people where the substance truly is.
Beautiful B/W and sound design.
