Life for Sale (2022) – Capsule Review

This movie simply tries too hard and does not deliver in barely any capacity.

The intended picturesque characters are boring, the action (sometimes subverted by the editing) leaves you cold, and the intended drama and surrealism do not bring anything special to the table.

For a film with a similar premise albeit a different approach, you will be better off watching Aki Kaurismäki’s I Hired a Contract Killer (1990).

It succeeds in setting a creepy atmosphere, and it has an interesting underlying message (such as the common disregard of the older generations).

Through its great make-up and fairly accomplished sense of eeriness, this movie manages to unsettle the audience member.

Unfortunately, its weak acting and story, being way better when it focuses in criticising the current needs that teenagers have to follow silly trends in exchange of virality and attention rather than the main plot of the family drama, keep this film from getting to the next level.

Exceptional photography of the Navarran Pyrenees.

The great locations, score and gut-wrenching sound design make of this a great epic.

It also enjoys of quite good SFX.

The story is overall good, especially when it focuses more on its fantastic side.

Sisu (2022) – Capsule Review

Brutal western-type of film set in WWII Finland.

Jorma Tommila is great in the Mad Max-inspired lead.

Its gradually increasing insanity makes the crazy final battle hysterical.

On the other hand, when the film focuses on other characters (especially the underdeveloped female ones) it loses steam.
