Adequately for Universal, Sam Raimi succeeds in devising a “monster/creature” film intertwined with other genres such as the superhero film, specifically the origin story, and the thriller. This latter approach being by far the weakest of the three, but still more than bearable due to the interesting and eye-catching main character, the occurrences he goes through and the overall visuals in the film (as per usual when we talk about Raimi).

The team of Jeremy Saulnier and Macon Blair give us an enjoyable crude revenge story populated by a bunch of common non-special in any regard type of people, differently to the usual canon of the genre that calls for some sort of either ruthless or to some extent “crafty” type of person when it comes to killing.

More of a sensorial experience rather than a traditional narrative film is what Jonathan Glazer provide us with Under the Skin, and being completely honest, even if it for sure delivers on this purely emotional aspect, a tiny bit more of attention and care on the story itself it is what is missing to go from being a really a good movie to an amazing one.

James Spader and Rob Lowe are the perfect odd couple in this unsettling thriller that builds up very strongly until its middle section but drops dramatically after it, resulting in a weaker third act and conclusion.
