Positively uncomfortable watch due to the main character’s point-of-view that it presents. In spite of its uneven acting and having some filler scenes, the film has a weirdly quick and nice pace to it leading nonetheless to a predictable 70’s style ending.
Nicolas Cage and Elisabeth Shue make the perfect self-destructive couple in this tragic romance set in Sin City. Some slight writing choices are the only weak points of this otherwise great movie with nice photography and music which balances to perfection drama, romance, and dark humour.
The cinema from the 90’s is still probably the best period to capture stylistically the rhythm, colourfulness, and decadence of the 70’s glam scene. Although not being fully able to grab you emotionally, its great costumes and sets alongside really good acting makes this film quite enjoyable.
Thanks to its mostly brilliant acting and the way that its story moves thrillingly and fast with a well machinated and playful structure of the events in the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the way it is presented via image and sound, this 3-hour movie moves along quickly and engagingly without stalling at any time. With the exception of some underdeveloped characters and plotlines and a rather heavy make-up, all other departments and elements are perfectly executed.
