The film has several visually stunning highpoints, accompanied by a tremendous bluesy soundtrack and score by the late great Robbie Robertson.
While we might have already seen similar stories to this one (albeit in different settings) directed by Scorsese, and its structure might feel very conventional, Marty still manages to keep you engaged and involved throughout the entire film. This is thanks to its great pace, which makes each scene essential to piecing together the tale, and rewards the audience with a singularly original epilogue.
In the acting department, everyone is bringing their A-game. Lily Gladstone completely steals the show, mostly through her gaze, and there’s a stalemate in the much-anticipated duel between De Niro and Di Caprio.
